Mott Projects is pleased to present while waiting for death, a solo exhibition by Berlin and Barcelona based artist Katharina Arndt.
This is Arndt’s first solo exhibition in New York and the United States. Join us for an opening reception on Friday, July 7th from 6-8pm. The artist will be in attendance.
For her solo exhibition while waiting for death Katharina Arndt created three new diptychs that focus on how food, love and sex represent daily pleasures that help us make it through our daily lives.
These three topics were specifically chosen to remind the viewer that only after our personal needs and longings have been fulfilled can we begin to think about saving the world... or not.

The diptych Burgermeister depicts Schlesisches Tor in Kreuzberg/Berlin, a location Arndt passes by every time she rides her bicycle to her studio.

A former fancy-styled public restroom from the turn of the century that has now become a very popular place to congregate, Arndt once had a burger there at 11am “because it was empty and I took the chance.

”The second Berlin inspired piece At Frankfurter Tor depicts a kissing couple that Arndt also saw on the way to her studio. Causing her to think about her secular and mortal life, and in search of sense, Arndt in this moment was reminded of the importance of love.

It didn’t hurt, of course, that the couple were wearing cool outfits that made her forget about the noisy traffic.

The third diptych Britta at the pool is of a friend Arndt visited last October in Alicante, Spain. Britta’s ritual of lazily spending her days naked beside her pool caused Arndt to reflect on hedonism, the detriments of an easy life, and emptiness.

Katharina Arndt (b. 1981) lives and works between Berlin and Barcelona. She studied Fine Art at Braunschweig School of Art and later obtained her Master of Fine Arts by John Armleder.

Her work has been exhibited at Unit 1 Gallery in London, artual gallery in Beirut, RedD Gallery in Greece, and Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan. This is her first solo exhibition in the United States.
