Camilla Skov – Sculpture

Camilla Skov is a sculptor working between ceramic, glaze and constructed form, currently based in Denmark. Her practice centers on enclosed systems that appear ornamental at first glance but quickly reveal tension, compression and resistance. These works are not narrative objects. They operate as self contained structures that test balance, symmetry and internal pressure.

Her sculptures are built through repetition and variation. Curved elements fold inward, mirror each other, and lock into circular or vertical formations. Surfaces are heavily worked, layered with dense glaze that emphasizes weight rather than decoration. The forms suggest growth, protection and accumulation while remaining visibly constrained. Nothing in the work feels accidental, yet nothing appears fully resolved.

Skov’s process foregrounds control as a material condition. The sculptures are assembled through precise decisions, but the glazing introduces volatility. Color pools, fractures and thickens, producing a surface tension that resists smooth closure. This friction between structure and surface is central. The objects hold themselves together, but only just.

Rather than proposing symbolism, Skov’s sculptures insist on presence. They function as systems under pressure, complete and closed, refusing narrative entry points. The work does not invite interpretation. It asks for sustained looking and physical awareness.
