Balancing Spiritual Quests and Grounded Realities in Artistic Expression

About the artist:

My name is Sofiia Bortnikova.

I’m an artist from Ukraine living and working in Vienna.

In my practice, it is important for me to explore life through humor, irony and metaphor. My creative searches can be conventionally divided into two groups: the first one is focused on mystical, mythological themes, the path of self-exploring through psychology, esoteric laws of the universe and connection with nature.

The second one is dedicated to highlighting prosaic little moments in everyday life.

In such a polar topics, I see a balance between a person's spiritual search for his destiny and a grounding connection with physical reality, which is the necessary base of this development.

I want my works to evoke warm, happy feelings, but with a hint of a mystery that the viewer has to solve or to think about.

It is important for me to talk about the deep connection between human and nature, so in my works you can see a lot of animals in typically human situations and, on the contrary, people in the natural environment as its integral parts.
