From Everyday to Uncanny: Rae Hicks' Artistic Exploration and Statement of Veiled Realities

Whether object, sculpture or painting, I want my works to constitute vignettes of a strange fiction that together, add up to some larger alternative landscape.

I draw heavily from mythology, real history, drama and conspiracy theories to conceive a portrait of a pervasive psyche, albeit one that is not always fully cogent or formed.

The aspect of the works ranges from the everyday, intensely quotidian to semi-narrative fantasy.

This notion of crossing the ‘veil’ between apparent normality and the uncanny weird is inherent to my own method of processing experience but continues a certain thread of horror and sci-fi as well as philosophy and critique.
